Xiaomi will announce its first foldable smartphone in early 2021, it seems. This information comes from Ross Young, a well-known tipster. He shared the information via his official Twitter account.

He said that Xiaomi will announce its first foldable smartphone in Q1 2021. That’s not the only piece of information he shared, though. Mr. Young previously said that Xiaomi will announce three foldable smartphones in 2021.
So, when are the other two coming? Well, in his Tweet, he added that the other Xiaomi foldable models will arrive in the second half of the year. The second half of 2021 will be quite interesting for foldables, it seems.
Mr. Young also said that OPPO, Vivo, and Google are planning to announce their first foldable smartphones in H2 2021. He did confirm all those companies will announce them recently, and now we know that they’re coming in the second half of next year.
Samsung will join the party as well, of course. Mr. Young didn’t mention it because this tweet was about the companies that will announce their first foldable offerings in 2021.

Xiaomi is tipped to announce three different types of foldables, actually. It will announce an in-fold foldable smartphone, an outfolding model, and a clamshell-style foldable smartphone.
The company has been working on foldable smartphones for a long time now. Xiaomi did demo its foldable devices quite some time ago, but that phone never came to fruition. It will be interesting to see what the company came up with.
What’s most interesting, Xiaomi is always competitive in the pricing segment. It will be interesting to see how much will the company’s foldable smartphones cost, and what specs will they offer.
2021 will be the year of foldable smartphones, it seems. It won’t be only Samsung’s party any longer, it seems. Xiaomi, Google, OPPO, and Vivo are looking to join the fight for that specific market share.
